My name is Dr. Jason Hart and I am a clinical psychologist practicing in beautiful and historic Bucks County, Pennsylvania. At my office in Doylestown, I work with clients to better understand their life situations in order to help them resolve dilemmas and establish a lifestyle that is consistent with their values, strengths, and personal goals.
“Mental Health” has become a buzz word in the medical profession and in our national media. Adjustments related to mental health are often times considered to be the cause or the solution to so many of our problems as individuals and in society as a whole. Poor mental health can be implicated in medical noncompliance, addiction, professional burnout, marital dissatisfaction, self harm, and the list goes on and on.
But what is this elusive “mental health”? What is it that we’re actually talking about when we suggest that an individual is suffering from mental health problems or crises? The truth is that when we actually speak directly with the patient, the individual living with this failing mental health, we find a human being who is lacking either the capacities or strategies to handle the circumstances of their life in a manner that would allow them to be content, adaptive, or function optimally.
I listen to my patients, discuss the complexities and subtleties of their lives in vivid detail. I want to do this, because I have the time and training to do this complicated work, and because the better I can understand a human being and their life situation, the more effective I can be at helping them to resolve their dilemmas and establish a lifestyle that is consistent with their values, strengths, and personal goals.
This is the heart of my work understanding a person’s existential condition in order to develop behavioral strategies that better establish harmony between who they know themselves to be and their life situation.
