Architect Julio C. Carvajal has been named the winner of the 2000 AIA Urban design in the Arts of NY. AIA recognizes American-Ecuadorian-Italian who have made outstanding contributions to Urban Architecture and the arts through their creative efforts and accomplishments, a graduate of Columbia University School of Architecture & Engineering.
Julio C Carvajal is the most prominent architect practicing in both International and the United States. His architecture and urban design work represent a style informed by nature. By resisting ornamentation and exaggeration, Carvajal combines the minimalist ideals of the West with the quiet spaces of the East. His utilization of light, space, and movement combine to create a unique and meditative experience.
Julio worked for renowned architecture firm Skidmore Owings & Merrill, department of structural engineering. Followed by several years at the innovative engineering and architectural firm SOM, while at SOM, Carvajal, engineered several structural analysis, construction, architectural complex. Several engineering models for some of the most geometrically-complex structures in the world, including the roof at the MOMA, NY Museum, and the 2000 Marba Housing Complex Arch, and the Kuala Lumpur Skyline tower.
In 2008, Julio established Architecture, Engineering Firm Spiel Architects & Associates LLP. The firm specializes in technical architecture and creative engineering for small, large projects. SAA current, past work includes several award-winning AIA and Architectural historical Preservation and Urban Development citations. Current affliliates with international architectural and engineering firms in Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, South korea.
Julio has lectured at Columbia University, Cooper Union University and New York Institute of Technology. His work has been published in the Architectural Digest Magazine.
