Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive treatment for major depression that can be prescribed as a treatment when talk therapy and medication don’t work. TMS can also be combined with talk therapy and medication, depending on specific needs.

TMS involves sending magnetic pulses to stimulate the neurons (brain cells) in parts of the brain that are associated with regulating mood.

During the sessions, an electromagnetic coil will be placed on your head to send magnetic impulses that over time will reduce symptoms of depression.

TMS therapy is effective because it stimulates cells that may not be active during major depressive disorder.
